Wolaver’s Farmhouse Ale
Posted by simonpo on June 13, 2008
More organic beer – haven’t been hugely impressed with the last ones I’ve tried, so I had high hopes that this would be a little bit different. As in, actually nice – and it should be, for this limited edition Farmhouse Ale is a Belgian-style saison, brewed with organic malts and hops by Otter Creek Brewing out of Vermont. You can read about their admirable commitment to sustainable brewing over here…
After a week’s abstinence from drinking, and a previous week suffering from the lack of decent beer in Canada (which, let’s face it, might as well be dry) I’d been looking forward to a decent pint for ages. Luckily, this one didn’t disappoint.
Wolaver’s farmhouse ale pours a golden orange, much lighter than I’d expected for some reason. The head is high and yeasty, and keeps growing as you top up your glass leading to some amusing moustache-style fun, though by the end of the glass it’s starting to fade. Taste-wise, it’s a decent attempt at a saison. I do believe I could tip these back all day, because it’s flowery and hoppy in equal measure with a hint of cloves and lemons for refreshment, and a rich malt aftertaste to round things off. I’m a fan.
