Big Sky Summer Honey

Posted by dugpark on May 31, 2008

Per the other post on Great Wolf Lodge, we had a great time.  I failed to mention, however, that I picked up a new six pack for my in the room boozing.  The sixpack was Big Sky Summer Honey and I believe it was 6 to 8 dollars.

I am still on the lookout fom a “great” honey ale or lager and unfortunately, this wasn’t the one.  Big Sky has done pretty good with their Moose Drool… at least Po likes it.  This one is another case of false honey advertising, though… just search honey on the blog and you will see some rants.

Big Sky Summer Honey tastes more like a relatively tasteless brown ale, to be honest.  So I guess if you realy don’t want any impactful beer, this might be good.  I just think it is mediocre in every way.  I could drink this if I had to and it were on the lower level of the fridge.

Summary: bland, standard brown, no note of honey.

Big Sky Brewing Moose Drool

Posted by simonpo on April 26, 2008

I first tasted Moose Drool over at the Tap House Grill in Bellevue, where I managed to slup my way through six or seven different beers in the course of an hour and where, I’m afraid to say, it lodged in my mind mainly because of it’s faintly revolting name.

When I saw it in Trader Joe’s last wekeend, I knew I had to have another bash - and as the handy six-pack was on special, it would have been churlish to refuse. Wanting to give no man a reason to call me “churl”, I took some home. Where I proceeded to drink almost all of it.

Good beer. Not amazing, outstanding or wonderful beer, but good in a solid, honest, long-legged, slightly stupid kind of way. Brown as a nut, with a milk-chocolate head and an honest earthy taste with just enough hops to stay bitter and a hint of malt, this has been my beer of the week - I keep going back to get more, and I think this’ll be one of the staples of the summer.

Thanks Big Sky Brewing, you’re my new regular thing!

Big Sky Brewing Powder Hound Winter Ale

Posted by dugpark on February 7, 2008

Beer of the night tonight = Powder Hound Winter Ale by Big Sky Brewing Company.

A good little winter ale… has a strong winter ale taste that is just subtle enough to not be overpowering.  What I do find, though, is that Powder Hound doesn’t really stand out.  There isn’t that special something that differentiates it from the other winter ales out there.  For example, Full Sail Wassail stands out to me.  It had a great taste with just a little edge and hint of spice.  Powder Hound doesn’t quite have that.  I will still enjoy the rest of the six pack, but probably won’t buy it again…
