Blue Moon continues to interest me… it is one of those big macro companies trying to sell like the small guy but they actually pull it off now and again. This is one of those instances.
Blue Moon Honey Moon is a light summer yellow brew with snow white frothy head. The body is definitely light with a crisp malt finish… you get a nice, slightly sweet finish with hints of honey and orange lingering just long enough to say hello but not long enought to wear out their welcome. 5.6% ABV.
This is going to be a great summer brew that I actually know I will pick up again… go figure.

I keep buying this line of beer in the hopes that one day it will be good stuff that I will actually want to buy again. So far it has been dissapointing… and not to be dissapointed about being disappointed again, but I was disappointed.
Full Moon Winter Ale lets me down again and leaves now doubt that this line of beers from Molson Coors just isn’t ever going to do it for me.
Full Moon Winter Ale has a dark auburn color, a thick head, and a mild nose. Its sweet body and short finish don’t leave you much in the area of taste and there definitely isn’t anything wintery about it other than the white-ish label. I don’t quite know what this beer is trying to be, but it definitely has succeeded at being tasty.

I really do like a good fall/autumn beer. I am sure that as we get closer to the fall/autumn, we will have plenty of choices in this genre, as well. This, while being a choice, has some serious issues, though, that I hope the others don’t share.
I had high hopes for Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale heading in. The bottle looks cool and it just sounds good. I was being very optimistic, if I do say so myself. My hopes were dashed, though, when I opened the bottle and didn’t smell any pumpkin… they were dashed again, when I took a first sip and didn’t taste any pumpkin… they were dashed a 3rd time (strike three) when the beer didn’t even taste good. Bad, bad, bad Blue Moon… shame on you for dissappointing me so.
The beer has a smallish head, a good amber (almost orange) hue, a strong beer nose, a light and tangy taste, and an abismal finish. Overall, a very, very mediocre beer. Brent was tasting with me last night, I made him do it… he couldn’t finish it. If that tells you anything about the beer or Brent… sorry Brent.

Yesterday was a heck of a day… started strong, up and at ‘em nice and early. Had a great little bit of lunch on the deck (see below) during some absolutely outstanding spring weather (I think it was about 70 all day). I decided to try Blue Moon Rising Moon Spring Ale (pic of web site below) because I am a sucker for seasonals… and we hadn’t reviewed anything from Blue Moon yet. I also liked the thought of a little lime in there… I am also a sucker for lime… what can I say?
My first of two bottles started out really strong, just like the day. Unlike the day, though, about halfway through it turned on my somehow and it just didn’t last. It went bitter, quick, and I couldn’t finish. Not one to trust my taste buds fully, I tried the other one as I was barbecuing a steak on the charcoal grill later in the evening. This one had much better staying power and tasted pretty solid.
My verdict is as follows… good head, good light and golden color, nice clean and crisp flavor. What I think happened with the first, though, was that I left it in the mug, in the sun as I ate… I will have to buy more to test my theory, but my suggestion is that you keep this one cold. Don’t let it warm up and you will likely find it quite enjoyable.
