Kona Brewing Company – Pipeline Porter

I am in love.  Really and truly in love.  Kona Brewing Company’s Pipeline Porter has to be one of the best all around beers I have ever tasted.  Not joking at all.  I have my favorites, but this one could possibly take the top spot.  A very dark porter that isn’t too thick or cloudy.  More like the color of dark cola.  Poors very smooth… just looks good sitting there.  Then the taste.  So, so easy to drink.  I am not one that can chug beer or soda.  I just don’t like the burn and I can’t do it fast.  Pipeline porter, though, was more like drinking water.  Incredibly smooth with a perfect aftertaste.  Couldn’t taste the coffee beans, but it is possible they are the perfect ingredient here.  Highly, highly recommended.  At 5.4%, it isn’t a bad kick, either.

Po has one of these in his fridge, I believe… wonder how he finds it.

**UPDATE** Since I still think of this beer frequently… especially when I am having a particularly nasty beer, I am going to make sure it gets the credit it is due and put it in the JustBeer Blog Hall of Fame.

  1. I recently sampled this beer at the Kona Brewery on the Big Island; you are right, it is outstanding. They have a nice Pipeline Porter T-shirt on which I receive many complements, too. Believe it or not, though, I actually liked Terrapin Imperial Coffee Oatmeal Stout a little better than the Kona brew… just my opinion!

The Terrapin sounds good for sure… too bad it isn’t available in our kneck of the woods. I will say the Pipeline Porter t-shirt is pretty cool… prior to this comment, I had already added it to my cart on their website and am contemplating whether I should make the purchase or not… 🙂

    Hi,
I also would say that the Pipeline Porter is my favorite beer. It seemed to be a seasonal beer. Do you know if they will make it again this fall? Or, are they still making it?

It says it is available from September to March… time to start looking for it in the grocery store, I do believe. 🙂

I just noticed this in the store I work at today (Total Wine and More). I bought a six pack tonight. Waiting for it to get cold now.

    Dugpark is correct.

Found a six pack of this at the local (Phoenix) Sunflower Grocery – on sale, too. Date stamp is December 08. Sampled immediately and think it’s great! Probably go back and grab another six while it’s on sale!! Your post is right on the money, one of the best if not the best. (Try Gonzo Imperial Porter if you haven’t yet. I suspect you have.)

Haven’t tried Gonzo but will add it to the list… 🙂 I buy a sixer of this every time I see one at the local Fred Meyer for I dread the day it is no longer available… 🙂
