Tasted this cool looking bottle from Shmaltz, He’Brew Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A., just the other day with some friends at Mr. Dave’s house. I like Shmaltz and I like the fact that they read the posts about their beers, so thanks Shmaltz folks… thanks for reading and thanks for even looking in the first place! 🙂
We are two for two with Shmaltz on the blog having to For the Win brews, so it was only a matter of time before either they moved up into the upper eschelons or something brought them back down a little… sorry to say that it is the latter. Don’t get me wrong, not a bad beer by any means, but something that didn’t stand out to me and one that I won’t be purchasing in the near future… although I will definitely drink it if place in front of me.
This one came across in a really intersting manner. I full expected a solid resemblence to IPA but it came through much different. It started with the sweet maple and candy nose… really quite nice there… a good full scent with promises of beery goodness inside. It then moved to something that was, somewhat nutty and a bit hoppy… less on the malts but even that was just a bit… meh… It finished with a bitter end that just wasn’t that memorable.
Still love the brewery but this one wasn’t really for me. Consequently it wasn’t for most of the folks at Mr. Dave’s house, so I wasn’t alone… but hey… you win some and you lose some.
