Upon opening this bad boy, a dark elixir pours from the bottle giving you hints at the smell and character. A first whiff nearly brings a tear of joy to my eye as this just plain smells awesome. Maybe one of the best smelling stouts ever… sweet and chocolaty to the core. The big creamy head isn’t too high, but sticks around and keeps a tight cap on the rest of the brew. The body is smooth and creamy and slides easily down the gullet as you savor the flavors of the obvious amounts of Belgian chocolate. There is a slightly bitter at the top of the mouth but it isn’t a bad thing and the overall experience leaves a nice warm chocolaty finish with a hint of the ABV (11.0%) kicking around in there. Beautifully dark, satiny smooth, this is a top quality chocolate ale.
