Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale

Definitely in the need for a good brew tonight and the look of Bear Republic’s Red Rocket Ale was appealing, so I thought, “what the hell” and I went for it. Very wise choice young Dug… very wise.

This brew pours a dark amber with a tight head. The nose is sweet and hoppy with a good balance to it.  As noted on the bottle, this is definitely not your standard Scottish style ale. It has way more hops than normal and they treat it quite well… maybe not for those that aren’t in love with hops, but for us Northwesterners, it is right up our alley. These hops play nicely with the Scottish style, creating a bitter but approachable body that mellows out as it warms up. The finish is clean and leaves the tongue tingling a bit, which is nice. 🙂

Overall a fine, fine brew that marries new world hops with old world Scottish style ale perfectly.

I had this not too long ago…it was good, but surprisingly, it tasted exactly a recent batch of my own homebrew. Which was cool, but a bit of a bummer. Seemed like I should have spent my money on something different.
