Sixth Glass Quadrupel Ale

Part of the “Smokestack Series” of artisan-style ales from the Boulevard Brewing Company out of Missouri, the Sixth Glass quad arrives in a somewhat pricey but elegntly packaged package, delivering a heady blast of Belgian goodness to your chalice after a protracted but ultimately succesful battle with the cursed cork. A sweet, fruity and typically yeasty blast greets the nose, a deep, rich and murky brown nectar greets the eye. Your mouth revels in the thick, syrupy goodness of a well-made American Abbey-style ale.

Goes down easy – a touch too easy, given the high ABV – and delivers a complex, satisfying dose of warming beer goodness. Perfect for a chilly winter afternoon spent on the sofa in front of a roaring log fire, which is precisely where I’m enjoying this one. Recommended.
